Benbros Launches 195 MWh Battery in Cantabria

Benbros has announced the launch of a significant energy storage initiative in Cantabria, Spain. This project, named ‘Bess Solórzano’, aims to establish a battery storage facility in the municipalities of Solórzano and Ruesga.

Project Details

The project involves a nominal power capacity of 49.738 megawatts. It will consist of a total of 145 battery units, designed to offer a substantial storage capacity of 199.52 megawatt-hours. This will ensure enhanced energy supply and reliability for the region.

Infrastructure Requirements

  • Electrical transformation and interconnection infrastructure will be developed.
  • High-voltage underground lines of 30 kilovolts will connect different power islands.
  • A sectioning center for protection and measurement at 30 kilovolts will be constructed.
  • A collector substation will also be established to support connectivity.

The facility is designed to connect to another project, known as ‘Bess Cantabria 1’. This collaboration will further enhance the energy capabilities of the area.

Technical Specifications

The batteries will incorporate a 30 kilovolt system featuring encapsulated cells with metal casing, gas insulation, and internal operation. Additionally, the substation will include a prefabricated building covering 108 square meters, equipped with separate control and cell rooms.

Budget and Public Disclosure

The total estimated budget for the project is €39,270,227.82. Detailed information regarding the expropriation of land and energy passage rights needed for the project has been published in the Official Bulletin of Cantabria. Public consultation regarding this announcement is open for a 30-day period.

Public Access and Further Information

Interested parties can review the project’s documentation under the ‘Public Information’ section on the website of the Directorate General of Industry, Energy and Mines of Cantabria. A mapped representation of the energy storage facility is available via the Geographic Information Viewer by selecting the ‘Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)’ layer.

This project marks an important step in Cantabria’s commitment to renewable energy and sustainable development. As battery technology advances, initiatives like Bess Solórzano play a crucial role in modernizing energy infrastructures.
