Severe Cold Snap Hits Central and North Gyeongsang Korea Until Weekend
Central and North Gyeongsang country are bracing for a severe cold snap expected to last until the weekend. Residents are advised to take necessary precautions against the intense cold.
Weather Warnings Issued
As of now, a cold wave advisory has been expanded to include parts of Seoul, and the inland areas of Chungnam and Jeonnam. Meanwhile, North Gyeongsang is under a cold wave warning.
Forecasted Temperatures
Extreme cold is anticipated over the coming days. Tomorrow, temperatures in Seoul will drop to around -11°C. By Friday, temperatures may further decline to -12°C, marking the peak of this cold snap.
Morning and Afternoon Temperatures
- Seoul: -11°C in the morning, reaching -2°C in the afternoon.
- Chuncheon: -14°C in the morning.
- Daejeon: -8°C in the morning, rising to 2°C later.
- Gwangju and Daegu: Expected to hit 4°C.
Precautions and Alerts
Residents are urged to dress warmly when going outside. In addition to the cold, the atmosphere is dry in the capital, eastern, and southern regions. Particularly in coastal areas along the East Sea, there is an elevated risk of wildfires, currently classified as a “warning” level.
Rain and Snow Forecast
While most of the country will see clear skies, light rain or snow is expected on Jeju Island from the afternoon into the evening. The central and Honam regions may still experience icy roads and slippery conditions.
Marine Conditions
High waves are expected in the distant waters of the East Sea, reaching up to 4 meters, accompanied by strong swells.
