North Norfolk Gastropub Celebrated as One of UK’s Best in Major Awards
Estrella Damm has unveiled its latest rankings for the UK’s Top 50 Gastropubs, a prestigious accolade in the hospitality sector. At a recent event, The Gunton Arms, located in Thorpe Market, North Norfolk, secured 16th place. This notable achievement comes as the pub continues to showcase its commitment to quality dining experiences.
Gunton Arms: A Culinary Gem in Norfolk
The Gunton Arms is nestled within a scenic deer park, offering a unique atmosphere for diners. Although the pub experienced a slight drop in ranks from 12th last year, it has maintained a prominent position in the annual list. It previously ranked 18th in 2024 and 46th in 2023.
Commitment to Local Ingredients
The pub prides itself on its menu, which emphasizes fresh, local seafood and meats. Coastal proximity allows them to offer dishes such as:
- Mussels and Cromer crab, sourced from local fishermen.
- 10oz sirloin steaks and Blythburgh pork chops.
- Gunton red deer rump and venison sausages served with mash and onion gravy.
These highlights reflect the culinary expertise found at The Gunton Arms. Ivor Braka, an art dealer, opened the establishment in 2011 after acquiring it in 2009. His goal was to create a top-notch gastropub that retains a traditional atmosphere.
Recognition and Accolades
The Gunton Arms has received consistent recognition, including a Michelin Bib Gourmand, which it has held for several years. It stands out not only for its menu but also for its dedication to local produce, further enhancing its reputation in the industry.
In addition to The Gunton Arms, the rankings revealed The Suffield Arms, also owned by Braka, which secured the 95th position in this year’s list. The overall winner of the Estrella Damm awards was The Devonshire in Soho, followed by The Unruly Pig in Suffolk.
The Gunton Arms remains a beacon of excellence in the British gastropub scene, continuing to attract both locals and visitors with its remarkable dining experience.
