U of T Tops Canada, Ranks in Global Top 30 by Times Higher Education
The University of Toronto (U of T) has achieved a significant milestone, ranking first in Canada and placing among the top 30 universities globally, according to the Times Higher Education World University Rankings by Subject for 2026. This remarkable success reflects U of T’s dominance across all 11 major subject areas evaluated.
Top Rankings in Various Disciplines
U of T is one of only six institutions worldwide, and the sole Canadian university, to secure a top 30 position in every broad subject area assessed by Times Higher Education. These subject areas encompass diverse fields, including:
- Arts and Humanities
- Engineering
- Life Sciences
- Medical and Health
Global Achievements
In the latest rankings, U of T secured notable positions, ranked ninth globally in medical and health—a position it has maintained for three consecutive years. Other notable placements include:
- Education Studies: 11th
- Psychology: 13th
- Arts and Humanities: 17th
Furthermore, U of T improved its rankings in several subjects. Life Sciences climbed two spots to 24th, Computer Science rose one position to 22nd, and Business and Economics advanced to 23rd. The university also upheld competitive rankings in:

Methodology Behind the Rankings
The rankings utilize a modified methodology originally applied in Times Higher Education’s overall World University Rankings, where U of T also achieved first place in Canada and 21st globally. The latest subject rankings evaluated 148 individual disciplines using 18 indicators across five categories:
