Amazon Australia Launches Fresh Food Delivery with Leading Supermarket Partnership
Amazon Australia has entered the fresh food delivery sector through a partnership with Harris Farm Markets. This new grocery delivery service is currently limited to select suburbs in Sydney, aiming to serve over 80 postcodes in the Inner City, Inner West, and surrounding areas.
Key Details of the Service
Customers will find a wide selection of Harris Farm products, including:
- Fresh produce
- Quality meat
- Grocery staples
However, some products, like frozen items, will not be available for delivery. The service offers convenient same and next-day delivery options for orders that meet a minimum value.
Delivery and Pricing
Orders must be at least $50, with Amazon Prime members enjoying free delivery on purchases over $100. Non-Prime customers can obtain free delivery on orders exceeding $200. All deliveries will be executed from Harris Farm’s Leichhardt store within two-hour windows using Amazon Flex delivery partners.
Expansion Plans and Job Opportunities
The launch of this service is expected to create more job opportunities in Sydney for Amazon Flex drivers. As demand increases, Amazon plans to expand delivery slots and onboard more drivers.
Growth in Grocery Sector
Amazon’s entry into fresh food aligns with the growth trend in its ’everyday essentials’ category, which has seen a year-on-year increase of more than 30%. This initiative allows customers to complete their grocery shopping on the Amazon platform, filling the gap left by the absence of fresh food delivery.
Partnership with Harris Farm
Harris Farm Markets, a family-owned Australian business founded in 1961, has a reputation for quality, collaborating with over 1,000 local farmers and suppliers. The decision to partner with Harris Farm was strategic, as their commitment to fresh produce aligns with Amazon’s service goals.
While Amazon Australia has not disclosed plans to collaborate with other grocery retailers like Coles or Woolworths, the company is focused on resolving any issues swiftly to enhance customer experience. Arno Lenior, Director of Prime for APAC, emphasized their dedication to listening to customer feedback and continually improving the service.
With the launch of this fresh food delivery service, Amazon aims to establish a strong foothold in the Australian grocery market, providing a new level of convenience to customers seeking quality food options.
