Stein Discusses Towns, Holiday, Knicks, Davis, and Eason Updates
Recent reports suggest the New York Knicks are gauging the trade market for multiple players, including Karl-Anthony Towns and Jrue Holiday. However, differing opinions within the media indicate uncertainty around these discussions.
Knicks and Karl-Anthony Towns Trade Talks
Steve Popper of Newsday mentioned that the Knicks have initiated conversations with various teams regarding Karl-Anthony Towns. In contrast, both Ian Begley from SNY.tv and Sam Amick of The Athletic have not detected any trade buzz concerning Towns.
Stefan Bondy of The New York Post confirmed that the Knicks are not actively shopping the 30-year-old All-Star. As of now, it seems that Towns will likely remain with the team until at least the trade deadline on February 5. Bondy notes, however, that this situation could evolve in the coming days.
According to Marc Stein from Filmogaz.com, rival teams believe the Knicks are downplaying Towns’ trade availability as a form of posturing. At a minimum, these clubs surmise that the Knicks want to assess the market for Towns.
- Karl-Anthony Towns Stats:
- Points: 20.5
- Rebounds: 11.4
- Assists: 2.9
- Shooting: 46.9% FG, 36.4% 3P, 85.6% FT
- Games Played: 42
- Contract Status: Under contract through 2027/28 with a $61 million player option for the final season.
Potential Trade for Jrue Holiday
Stein has also reported that the Knicks are exploring the potential acquisition of Jrue Holiday from the Trail Blazers. Securing Holiday could enhance the Knicks’ appeal to his former Bucks teammate, Giannis Antetokounmpo.
The Knicks are reportedly long-time admirers of Holiday, viewing him as an ideal complement in the backcourt alongside Jalen Brunson.
Focus on Smaller Deals
Despite the rumors surrounding major trades, sources close to the Knicks indicate that the team is focusing on smaller transactions. One player mentioned is Guerschon Yabusele, who is currently making $5.5 million this season and holds a $5.8 million player option for the 2026/27 season.
Other Trade Rumors
Stein also addressed the situation regarding Anthony Davis. It appears unlikely the 10-time All-Star will be traded before the deadline. Although the Mavericks continue to entertain offers, Davis prefers to remain in Dallas for the rest of the season.
In Houston, the Rockets have declared Tari Eason off-limits in trade discussions. Eason, 24, is enjoying a career year, shooting 46.6% from three-point range and is set to become a restricted free agent in the summer.
