River Ryan Shines Among Seven Dodgers Prospects in Athletic’s Top 100

River Ryan has emerged as a standout Dodger prospect, spotlighted in The Athletic’s top 100 rankings. He is among seven promising Dodgers players featured in the list. The assessment, conducted by prospect expert Keith Law, highlights the potential of Ryan and his fellow teammates in the organization.

Top Dodgers Prospects in 2024

Law’s ranking primarily focuses on outfielders, with four of them occupying the top four spots. The youngest player, Eduardo Quintero, takes the lead at No. 9 overall. Other notable outfield prospects include:

  • Josue De Paula – ranked No. 20
  • Zyhir Hope – ranked No. 36
  • Mike Sirota – ranked No. 51

River Ryan stands out as a pitching prospect. During his rehabilitation, he demonstrated impressive speed, reaching 100 mph. If fully healthy, he could be considered the top pitching prospect in baseball.

Ryan’s Pitching Skills

River Ryan showcases an array of pitches, including:

  • A four-seamer that consistently hits the upper 90s with notable ride
  • A slider and a cutter introduced in 2024
  • A two-plane curveball
  • A changeup

Currently, his cutter is the least effective pitch, yet it is compensated by the overall high quality of his pitching arsenal.

Other Dodgers in the Top 100

In addition to Ryan, Alex Freeland also made the top 100 list. He is a switch-hitting shortstop who debuted in the major leagues in 2025. Freeland has experience playing across the infield during his brief stint with the Dodgers.

Freeland is ranked as the 87th-best prospect, with Law noting that while he’s played shortstop, he is more suited for second or third base roles. His versatility adds to the Dodgers’ depth as they prepare for upcoming seasons.

As the Dodgers develop their young talents, River Ryan and other prospects will be critical to the team’s future success.
