Apple Enhances AirTag: Louder Alerts and Extended Range Unveiled

Apple has recently unveiled an upgraded version of its popular AirTag tracker. The latest model features enhanced Bluetooth range, a louder speaker, and improved precision-finding capabilities.

Enhanced Features of the New AirTag

The new AirTag incorporates Apple’s second-generation Ultra Wideband chip, which is also used in the iPhone 17, iPhone Air, Apple Watch Series 11, and Apple Watch Ultra 3. This chip greatly improves the device’s precision-finding technology, providing users with haptic, visual, and audio feedback to locate lost items more effectively. Apple claims that the enhanced finding capabilities can reach up to 50% farther than the previous version.

Louder Alerts

In addition to its extended range, the AirTag now boasts a speaker that is 50% louder than its predecessor. This increase in volume allows the tracking beep to be heard from twice the distance, improving the user experience when searching for misplaced items.

Integration with Apple Devices

Moreover, the new AirTag model will be fully compatible with the Precision Finding feature available on Apple Watch Series 9 and later, as well as the Apple Watch Ultra 2. This allows users to utilize their smartwatches for locating tagged items seamlessly.

Share Item Location Feature

The upgraded AirTag also includes the Share Item Location feature. This iOS functionality enables users to temporarily share the AirTag’s location with third parties, enhancing collaboration when locating shared belongings. Currently, Apple has partnered with 50 airlines for improved luggage tracking, adding convenience for travelers.

Pricing and Market Impact

Despite the upgrades, the AirTag’s pricing remains unchanged, with a single unit retailing for $29 and a four-pack for $99, which includes complimentary personalized engraving. Since its launch in 2021, AirTag has dominated the Bluetooth tracker market, significantly impacting competitors such as Tile.

  • Apple’s AirTag maintains roughly 70% market share in tracker sales for 2024.
  • Competitors like Chipolo have adapted to the market by integrating with the Find My app.
  • Apple does not disclose the exact sales numbers for AirTag units.

With these improvements, the AirTag solidifies its position as a leading solution for tracking lost items, offering advanced features that enhance usability and reliability.
