The iconic Bertone Runabout concept car, first unveiled in 1969, is now available for purchase after a lengthy production wait. Recognized for its unique wedge-shaped design, the Runabout was originally created by the renowned designer Marcello Gandini. After more than 50 years, this modern iteration preserves the spirit of the original while incorporating advanced automotive technology.
About the Bertone Runabout
The 1969 Runabout featured a roofless and doorless body and was powered by a 1.1-litre Autobianchi engine. Its striking design heavily influenced later models, notably Fiat’s X1/9, launched in 1972. This modern version, priced at £400,000, represents a significant evolution.
Performance Enhancements
This new Runabout is built on a fresh Exige chassis and features an upgraded powertrain. Adapted from the Lotus model, it now boasts a supercharged 3.5-litre V6 engine sourced from Toyota. Key specifications include:
