Republic Day 2026 Parade Debuts Bhairav Battalion and Suryastra Rocket Launchers
The upcoming Republic Day 2026 parade in New Delhi will feature exciting additions, reflecting India’s growing military capabilities and traditions. The newly introduced ‘Suryastra’ rocket launcher system and the recently raised Bhairav light commando battalion will be among the highlights of the event. This celebration marks the 77th Republic Day of India and promises to deliver a showcase of military prowess over its 90-minute duration.
Key Features of the Republic Day 2026 Parade
The parade will include:
- 18 marching contingents representing various branches of the armed forces.
- 13 bands, adding a musical flair to the celebrations.
- A grand display featuring major defense assets, including the BrahMos missile, Akash system, and MRSAM systems.
- Innovative platforms like the Advanced Towed Artillery Gun System (ATAGS) and Dhanush artillery gun.
Notable Participants and Guests
Approximately 6,000 defense personnel will participate, led by Lieutenant General Bhavnish Kumar, General Officer Commanding of the Delhi Area. Esteemed international guests will include:
- Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission.
- Antonio Costa, President of the European Council.
New Additions to the Military Display
Among the noteworthy firsts in the Republic Day celebrations are:
- ‘Suryastra’ Universal Rocket Launcher System, capable of executing surface-to-surface strikes up to 300 km.
- The Bhairav light commando battalion, introduced to enhance coordination between infantry and special forces.
- A mix of animals, including four Zanskar ponies and two Bactrian camels.
- New Army dogs and a mixed scouts contingent clad in thermal gear.
Phased Battle Array Formation
This year’s parade will showcase a ‘phased battle array formation’. This innovative approach will display forces in a battle-like configuration, beginning with reconnaissance units and followed by logistics and infantry in full battle gear. The 61 Cavalry will also make a striking appearance, traditionally donning ceremonial attire but this time in battle gear.
Aircraft Flypast
The flypast will occur in two parts, featuring a total of 29 aircraft, including:
- Rafale
- Su-30
- P8I
- MiG-29
- Apache helicopters
- LCH (Light Combat Helicopter)
- ALH (Advanced Light Helicopter)
- Mi-17 helicopters
- C-130 and C-295 transport aircraft
This Republic Day, themed ‘150 years of Vande Mataram,’ promises to deliver an awe-inspiring celebration, showcasing India’s military advancements with pride and honor.
