The City of Arlington is implementing several changes to services and facilities from January 23 to January 27, 2026, due to winter weather conditions. Residents are encouraged to stay informed about any further updates regarding these changes.

Garbage and Recycling Updates

Republic Services, the city’s provider for garbage and recycling, will not conduct commercial collection routes on January 24. Communication with Republic Services will continue to gauge any modifications to both residential and commercial collection services on January 26 and 27.

Library Services

All Arlington public library locations will remain open during regular hours on January 24 and will serve as warming centers. On January 25, the George W. Hawkes Downtown Library will open its lobby and public restrooms two hours early, at noon.

  • East Library and Recreation Center: Open from noon to 5 p.m. on January 25
  • All other library branches: Closed

Warming Centers and Overnight Shelters

For those in need of a warm space, three overnight shelters will be available during the winter storm. These shelters have been set up through collaborations with local organizations:

  • The Salvation Army
  • First United Methodist Church
  • Nations Church

The city offers free transportation between warming centers and overnight shelters. Additionally, the Arlington Animal Services Shelter will accept pets of individuals experiencing homelessness based on availability. The shelter is located at 1000 SE Green Oaks Blvd.

Recreation Centers

Most recreation centers will operate during their normal hours on January 24 and 25. However, the Dottie Lynn Recreation Center will be closed on Sundays.

Golf Courses and Restaurants

All four public golf courses in Arlington will remain closed through January 27. The Home Plate Restaurant and Ventana Grille will also be closed during this period.

Tennis Center

The Arlington Tennis Center will not be open on January 24 or 25.

Public Transportation

Handitran and Arlington On-Demand services will be suspended on January 24 due to weather conditions. The status for services on January 26 will depend on road conditions.
