Mike McDaniel Cancels Interview in Bills Coaching Search

The Buffalo Bills are currently seeking a new head coach, particularly one with an offensive mindset to help propel the team toward a Super Bowl victory. Reports earlier indicated that former Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel was a potential candidate for the role. However, he has now canceled his scheduled interview for the coaching position.

McDaniel, known for his creative play design, was set to meet with key figures from the Bills, including co-owner Terry Pegula and general manager Brandon Beane. Instead, he opted out of the interview but is still in communication with the team regarding a possible future meeting, as reported by Jordan Schultz.

Future Possibilities for McDaniel

In light of cancelling his Bills interview, Mike McDaniel may take on the role of offensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Chargers. The expectation is that this will occur unless he secures one of the other available head coaching positions.

Coaching Track Record

During his tenure with the Dolphins, McDaniel achieved a record of 35 wins and 33 losses over four seasons, which included two playoff appearances. Notably, he faced the Bills in the Wild Card round of the 2022 NFL season, suffering a close 34-31 defeat. However, his last two seasons with Miami, where he compiled a record of 15 wins and 19 losses, did not meet expectations, leading to his termination.

Current Coaching Search Developments

The Bills have already spoken with several candidates for their head coaching position:

  • Joe Brady – Current offensive coordinator
  • Brian Daboll – Former New York Giants head coach and previous Bills offensive coordinator
  • Anthony Lynn – Current run game coordinator for the Washington Commanders (interview scheduled)
  • Grant Udinski – Current offensive coordinator for the Jacksonville Jaguars (interview scheduled)

As the Bills continue their search for a new head coach, they’re focused on finding a leader who can effectively utilize star quarterback Josh Allen’s talents to achieve postseason success.
