The newly approved instructional calendars for the 2026-27 and 2027-28 school years will now feature designated fall breaks in October. Below are the important dates for both academic years:
2026-27 Academic Year
- First Day of School: August 12, 2026
- Fall Break: October 9-13, 2026
- Staff and Student Holiday: February 15, 2027
- Spring Break: March 8-12, 2027
- Last Day of School: May 26, 2027
2027-28 Academic Year
- First Day of School: August 11, 2027
- Fall Break: October 8-12, 2027
- Spring Break: March 13-17, 2028
- Last Day of School: May 24, 2028
The introduction of a fall break aligns with the district’s commitment to meet state education requirements, which stipulate a minimum of 75,600 operational minutes per school year. Elementary and junior high schools will operate for 437 minutes daily, while high schools will operate for 447 minutes.
The decision to implement this fall break was rooted in feedback from a recent district-wide survey that engaged parents, students, and staff. The survey showed a strong preference for the inclusion of a fall break, which significantly influenced the board’s decision-making process.
As Katy ISD moves forward with these changes, the community can expect an improved academic calendar that supports both educational goals and the well-being of students.
