Matt Howerton and Dia Wall Join WFAA’s ‘Daybreak’ Morning Show

WFAA’s popular morning show, Daybreak, is undergoing a transformation as it welcomes two new talents. Matt Howerton and Dia Wall will join the show in late February, following the departure of anchor Marc Istook.

Meet the New Anchors of WFAA’s Daybreak

Matt Howerton, currently a general assignment reporter at Channel 8, is excited about the new chapter in his career. “After eight years of running around the metroplex telling the stories of so many Texans, I’m incredibly grateful,” he expressed on social media. He will begin his role on Daybreak on February 24.

Howerton, originally from Ennis, Texas, has a deep history with WFAA. He stated, “Little did I know—the words, phrases, iconic anchors, and reporters saying them through our TV set would inspire me to get into the news.”

Dia Wall: A Dream Come True

Dia Wall, an anchor and reporter from Irving, also expressed her excitement. In an Instagram post, she called her new role a “dream come true.” Wall graduated from Texas Christian University in 2008 and previously worked as a reporter for the Dallas Cowboys. She joined WFAA in early 2024.

Wall will officially start at Daybreak on February 23. “The ability to showcase what’s happening across North Texas is powerful,” she noted in her biography. She is eager to use her platform for equity and justice.

Upcoming Changes at Daybreak

Marc Istook is set to leave the show on February 20. His future plans have not yet been disclosed. In addition to the new anchors, Daybreak has other changes underway. Recently, anchor Kara Sewell announced she will take maternity leave starting next month.

Moreover, a new traffic anchor named Erica Lopez has joined the Daybreak team. Lopez, who describes herself as a “traffic nerd,” previously worked for 9News (KUSA-TV) in Denver. These updates mark a period of significant change for WFAA’s Daybreak, promising exciting developments for its viewers.
