Nottingham Forest Considers Cuiabano Departure, Targets Liverpool’s Kostas Tsimikas
Nottingham Forest is preparing to part ways with Brazilian left-back Cuiabano, who was signed for £10million. The club is open to loaning him out before the January transfer window closes. In the process, they are also targeting Liverpool’s Kostas Tsimikas as they seek to bolster their options at left back.
Cuiabano’s Situation at Nottingham Forest
Cuiabano joined Nottingham Forest last summer as part of a four-player acquisition from Botafogo. His fellow signings included:
- Igor Jesus (£16 million, striker)
- Jair Cunha (£10 million, central defender)
- John Victor (goalkeeper)
Despite his potential, Cuiabano has not made an appearance for the first team. After his initial transfer, he was loaned back to Botafogo for the remainder of the Brazilian league season. He returned to Forest last month and is now likely to secure another loan move.
Potential Loan Destinations
Forest is considering sending Cuiabano to clubs within the Evangelos Marinakis network, with Rio Ave in Portugal or Olympiacos in Greece as possible options.
Left Back Reinforcements Needed
Nottingham Forest aims to strengthen the left-back position. Oleksandr Zinchenko’s loan from Arsenal has not met expectations, as he has started only four matches in the Premier League. His time at City Ground may soon end to allow a loan move to Ajax.
With Zinchenko’s departure likely, Forest is looking to add a left-back to the squad. Both Neco Williams and Ola Aina can play in that position, but the club is keen on enhancing the left side of defense.
Kostas Tsimikas: A Strategic Target
Kostas Tsimikas, currently on loan at Roma, has emerged as a key target. The 29-year-old has struggled for playing time in Italy, managing only four Serie A starts this season. Roma may be willing to terminate his loan if they can find a suitable replacement.
Tsimikas previously played for Olympiacos before his transfer to Liverpool in 2020 for £11.25 million. He has significant Premier League experience, having made 66 appearances for Liverpool over five years, making him an attractive option for Forest.
As Nottingham Forest evaluates its options, the potential addition of Tsimikas could significantly enhance their defensive capabilities and bring much-needed experience to the team.
