Canned Tuna Recalled for Botulism Risk Reshipped Mistakenly to 9 States
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a warning regarding a batch of canned tuna due to a potential botulism risk. Genova Yellowfin Tuna has been mistakenly shipped across nine states after previously being recalled.
Canned Tuna Recalled for Botulism Risk
These suspect cans were initially part of a broader recall initiated last February. The recall was prompted by defective “easy open” pull-tab lids from Tri-Union Seafoods. These defective lids pose a risk of leakage or contamination with clostridium botulinum, a bacteria that can lead to fatal food poisoning.
States Affected
The recalled products were erroneously reshipped to six grocery chains operating in the following states:
- Illinois
- Indiana
- Kentucky
- Michigan
- Ohio
- Wisconsin
- Maryland
- Virginia
- California
Retail Chains Involved
Several grocery chains have received these potentially dangerous shipments, including:
- Meijer
- Giant Foods
- Safeway
- Albertsons
- Vons
- Pavilions
