At approximately 8 p.m. on Monday, officers were dispatched in response to reports of a person threatening others with a knife. Upon arriving at the scene, the officers engaged with the suspect, who then opened fire, injuring the two officers. The Portland Police Bureau has confirmed that the injured officers were transported to a local hospital and are in stable condition, recovering from their injuries.
Suspect Description
The police released visuals of the suspect involved in the shooting. He is identified as:
- A white male in his mid-30s
- Facial hair
- Wearing a black baseball cap
- A black jacket over a gray hooded sweatshirt
- Black pants and black shoes
- Carrying a black backpack and a green shopping bag
Authorities urge the public not to approach him, as he is still believed to be armed.

The shooting took place near Northeast 17th Avenue and Clackamas Street. In response, around 90 police units were deployed to the area, establishing a wide perimeter that spanned from Broadway to Multnomah Street and between 15th and 21st avenues. Chief Bob Day emphasized the thoroughness of the ongoing search, stating that all available resources were utilized effectively.

Local residents were advised to remain indoors, locking doors and closing windows, as officers conducted a methodical search using spotlights and aerial surveillance from police aircraft.
