Two PPB Officers Shot, Injured in Sullivan’s Gulch; Manhunt Continues

On the night of January 19, 2026, Portland Police responded to a threatening situation in the Sullivan’s Gulch area. Officers were dispatched to Northeast 21st Avenue and Northeast Clackamas Street after reports indicated the presence of a weapon.

On arrival, officers encountered the suspect, who opened fire, injuring two officers. Both were swiftly taken to a local hospital, where they are currently in stable condition.

Ongoing Manhunt in Sullivan’s Gulch

After the shooting, law enforcement established a perimeter to capture the fleeing suspect. Various teams joined the search, including:

  • Special Emergency Reaction Team (SERT)
  • Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT)
  • Air Support Unit
  • PPB Unmanned Aircraft Systems Unit
  • K9 units

The suspect is described as a Caucasian male in his mid-30s, with facial hair. He was last seen wearing:

  • A black baseball cap
  • A black jacket over a gray hooded sweatshirt
  • Black pants and black shoes

Additionally, he carried a black backpack and a green shopping bag and is considered armed with both a knife and a handgun.

Authorities caution the public not to approach the suspect if spotted and to report any sightings immediately by calling 911. The suspect is regarded as armed and dangerous.

During the manhunt, numerous road closures are in effect between Northeast Broadway and Northeast Multnomah Street, spanning Northeast 15th Avenue to Northeast 21st Avenue. The public is requested to stay indoors with doors and windows secured until the situation is resolved.
