Bulls Update: Giddey Injury Status and Potential Trade Developments

Recent updates for the Chicago Bulls have brought positive news concerning Josh Giddey’s health and potential trade developments as the NBA trade deadline approaches.

Bulls Update: Josh Giddey Injury Status

Josh Giddey, the Bulls’ talented point guard, has been sidelined since December 29, 2025. He suffered a hamstring injury during a match against the Minnesota Timberwolves. As a result, he has missed nine consecutive games this season, having not played in 2026 at all.

Interestingly, one game was postponed due to a condensation issue on the court, preventing an additional game missed. Chicago struggled offensively in Giddey’s absence, scoring under 100 points in two of the nine matches—a stark contrast to their early season performance, where they achieved that feat once in their first 32 games.

Possible Return to the Court

Fortunately, K.C. Johnson from CHSN reports that Giddey has successfully gone through significant stages of his recovery. He is expected to complete a G League assignment with the Windy City Bulls soon. Should all go well, Giddey may return to the main team as early as Tuesday or Thursday, offering fans hope of improvement on the court.

Trade Developments Ahead of NBA Deadline

In addition to Giddey’s recovery, the Bulls are anticipated to be active as the NBA trade deadline approaches on February 5, 2026. Arturas Karnisovas, the executive vice president of basketball operations, has historically been cautious regarding in-season trades. However, recent reports suggest he is taking a more proactive stance.

According to Joe Cowley from the Chicago Sun-Times, Karnisovas has become more open in trade discussions compared to last year. Other team executives have noted a renewed momentum as the trade deadline nears.

Potential Trade Targets

The Bulls possess several players who could be involved in trade discussions, including:

  • Nikola Vucevic (center)
  • Coby White (guard, age 25)
  • Ayo Dosunmu (guard)

Additionally, valuable expiring contracts of Zach Collins ($18.1 million) and Kevin Huerter ($17.9 million) could be attractive trade chips. Should Karnisovas decide to pursue high-profile players, he has several first-round picks available to facilitate such moves.

Despite the optimism, Cowley notes the distinction between intention and actual trade success. The coming weeks will clearly reveal if the Bulls can make the needed changes to enhance their roster.
