The New York Police Department confirmed that Underwood was struck by a black SUV while crossing an intersection in the Brownsville neighborhood. The SUV was later involved in a second collision with her, resulting in her death. Both vehicles fled the scene, and the drivers remain unidentified.
Police recorded the accident at approximately 6:43 a.m. at the intersection of Pitkin Avenue and Mother Gaston Boulevard, just two blocks away from where Underwood was ultimately found. Emergency medical services pronounced her dead at the scene.
