Denver Broncos, NFL Honor Colorado Coach After Historic Football Championship Run

The Dakota Ridge Eagles football team has made history by winning the school’s first 4A state football championship. Under the leadership of second-year head coach Jeremiah Behrendsen, this achievement marks a significant milestone for the program. The triumph reflects the dedication and resilience of the student-athletes and the coaching staff.

Recognition from the Denver Broncos

The success of the Dakota Ridge Eagles has not gone unnoticed. Recently, Coach Behrendsen received acknowledgment from the Denver Broncos and the NFL. He was nominated for the prestigious Don Shula NFL High School Coach of the Year Award. This recognition honors coaches who embody character, integrity, leadership, and community involvement, paralleling the values upheld by legendary coach Don Shula.

Team Building and Unwavering Culture

Coach Behrendsen attributes the championship to a culture built on belief and discipline. This culture faced challenges early in his tenure when the team faced tragic losses. A former player died in an accident, followed by the passing of the defensive coordinator’s wife. Players believe the championship helped foster healing within the team.

“Our defensive coordinator, who lost his wife last year, would be the first to say, ‘Man, I needed this,’” Behrendsen remarked, highlighting the camaraderie that has formed through shared experiences.

Upcoming Honor and Awards

The recognition extends beyond just accolades. Winners from each NFL conference will be chosen, with the announcement taking place the week before the 2026 Pro Bowl Games and Super Bowl LX. Both winners will receive:

  • A $15,000 grant for their high school football programs
  • A $10,000 cash award

Additionally, the remaining 30 nominees will each receive a $1,000 cash award. All winners will be honored during the NFL Honors ceremony on February 5 in San Francisco.

A Focus on Family

For Behrendsen, family is at the heart of his success. He credits the unwavering support of his wife. He also cherishes the moments shared with his son, Kellen Behrendsen, who plays quarterback for the Eagles.

As the Dakota Ridge Eagles celebrate their historic championship victory and Coach Behrendsen’s prestigious nomination, the spirit of unity and resilience remains at the forefront of their journey.
