Meet Michael Carrick’s New Manchester United Backroom Team
As Carrick aims to steer Manchester United toward a successful conclusion of the season, he is joined by five key assistants:
- Steve Holland
- Jonathan Woodgate
- Jonny Evans
- Travis Binnion
- Craig Mawson
Steve Holland
Steve Holland assumes the role of Carrick’s deputy. Known for his tenure as Gareth Southgate’s right-hand man with the England national team, Holland has an impressive coaching pedigree. He has worked alongside prominent managers like Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte during his time at Chelsea, contributing to their UEFA Champions League and Premier League triumphs. His last managerial position was with J-League team Yokohama F. Marinos, from which he parted ways after a brief stint.
Jonathan Woodgate
Returning to Manchester United as an assistant, Jonathan Woodgate previously collaborated with Carrick at Middlesbrough. A former defender, Woodgate led Middlesbrough for a year before departing in June 2020. His playing history includes time at Tottenham Hotspur, Real Madrid, and Leeds United. He also shares a connection with Jason Wilcox, United’s current director of football.
Jonny Evans
Jonny Evans is a well-known figure among United supporters, having made 241 appearances for the club. He debuted in 2006, contributing to three Premier League titles and a Champions League victory. After a two-year return to Manchester in 2023, Evans served as United’s head of loans and pathways before his appointment to Carrick’s coaching team.
Travis Binnion
Travis Binnion transitioned from the head coach of the under-21s to join Carrick’s staff. With a strong record, Binnion led United’s under-18s to victory in the FA Youth Cup in 2022, showcasing his capabilities at Carrington since 2019.
Craig Mawson
Craig Mawson’s journey with Manchester United began in 2019 as an assistant goalkeeping coach. He succeeds Jorge Vital after the latter’s exit alongside Amorim. Mawson’s experience includes a long tenure at Burnley, where he served as head of academy goalkeeping since 2010.
As Carrick and his backroom team embark on this new chapter, they aim to reshape Manchester United’s performance for a strong finish to the season.
