UVic Welcomes New VP of Indigenous Engagement This Summer

The University of Victoria (UVic) has announced the appointment of Dr. Angela Jaime as its new Vice-President Indigenous Engagement. She will officially start her role this summer, following a comprehensive national search.

About Dr. Angela Jaime

Dr. Jaime is an enrolled member of the Pit River Tribe from Northern California. Currently, she holds the position of Vice-Provost, Indigenous Engagement at the University of Saskatchewan (USask).

  • Expertise in academic leadership
  • Focus on equity, anti-racism, and social justice

Achievements at the University of Saskatchewan

During her tenure at USask, Dr. Jaime spearheaded several key initiatives:

  • ohpahatân | oohpaahotaan: The Indigenous Strategy
  • Development of the deybwewin | tapwaywin | taapwaywin truth policy

These initiatives have significantly contributed to the implementation of UVic’s own Indigenous Citizenship Declaration Policy.

Research Focus

Dr. Jaime’s academic research emphasizes:

  • Decolonization within post-secondary institutions

Future Plans at UVic

As she takes on her new role at UVic, Dr. Jaime will enhance Indigenous leadership across the institution. Her responsibilities will include:

  • Establishing accountability with local Nations and Indigenous communities
  • Engaging with the broader university community
