JSX Launches New Service at Santa Monica Airport

JSX, the Dallas-based public charter airline, has officially launched passenger services at Santa Monica Airport. This comes amid ongoing legal challenges regarding the airport’s commercial flight operations. A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held early this week to celebrate this new phase in their expansion.

Expansion of Services

JSX will increase flight frequencies to Las Vegas and introduce a new nonstop service to Scottsdale starting January 22, 2026. Specifically, JSX will offer:

  • Daily nonstop flights between Santa Monica Airport and Scottsdale Airport.
  • Increased service to Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas, rising to twice-daily flights.
  • Planned expansion to three daily flights from Las Vegas beginning February 5, 2026.

Aircraft and Onboard Experience

All flights from Santa Monica will utilize JSX’s ATR 42-600 turboprop aircraft, configured to carry 30 passengers comfortably. The airline promotes a seamless travel experience, featuring:

  • 20-minute check-in from curb to aircraft.
  • Two checked bags included in the ticket price, accommodating golf and ski gear within set size limits.
  • Complimentary cocktails and in-seat charging for personal devices.
  • Business-class legroom for added comfort.

Future Plans

JSX aims to introduce free Starlink Wi-Fi across its fleet in the first quarter of 2026, subject to necessary certifications. Tickets can be purchased via the JSX website or mobile app, starting at $215 one-way, inclusive of taxes. The airline intends to maintain at least six daily departures from Santa Monica, potentially expanding to nine flight options.

Local Impact and Legal Context

The recent service launch follows a three-year lease granted by the city in October. City officials have emphasized that their approval aligns with a federal consent decree requiring the airport to remain operational until December 31, 2028. This enables JSX to operate under the terms set forth for qualified airlines.

Despite this progress, a lawsuit was filed by local residents and the Measure LC Defense advocacy group, challenging the city’s approval based on environmental grounds. The plaintiffs, including community members Alan Levenson and Zina Josephs, argue that the city did not conduct an appropriate environmental review. However, officials assert that federal law prevents them from denying access to qualified operators.

Community Engagement

JSX has reported significant local interest, with over 2,200 Santa Monica residents already utilizing travel services from alternative regional airports. This initiative aims to enhance regional connectivity, reflecting the demand for convenient travel options in the area.

The airline, founded in 2016, currently operates a versatile fleet of Embraer jets and ATR turboprop aircraft across approximately 29 airports in the US and Mexico. CEO Alex Wilcox emphasized that the expansion at Santa Monica is a response to the increasing need for smarter regional travel solutions.
