Slovakian hockey prodigy Nela Lopušanová has made her mark in women’s under-18 hockey. The 17-year-old forward matched the career points record at the world championship, held in Sydney, Nova Scotia. Her accomplishment came during a quarterfinal match against Sweden, where Slovakia lost 7-2.

Nela Lopušanová’s Record-Breaking Achievement

Nela Lopušanová tied with American player Kendall Coyne Schofield, both boasting 33 career points in this prestigious tournament. Lopušanová has played in 14 games over four years, scoring 22 goals and achieving a remarkable six goals and one assist in just four games this year.

Team Spirit Above Individual Glory

In a recent interview with the Cape Breton Post, Lopušanová stated her commitment to her team. “I’m just going to play my game, and the points are going to come,” she said. “I’m happy with my point production, but I just want the team to win more than individual success.”

Notable Honors

  • Two-time Most Valuable Player (2023, 2025)
  • 2023 Tournament Scoring Leader

Lopušanová’s impressive accomplishments are even more remarkable considering she competed with one of the weaker teams in the tournament. She continues to excel in high school hockey in Rochester, New York, and is set to join the NCAA hockey program at the University of Wisconsin next season.
