Closed Pub to be Expanded After a Year

A historic pub and hotel, The Fox and Hounds in Exton, may soon undergo significant renovations following its closure for about a year. An architectural firm, RTK Stamford Limited, has submitted a proposal to extend the establishment with a new single-storey orangery.

Proposed Developments at The Fox and Hounds

The proposed plans involve several critical changes to the property:

  • Construction of a single-storey orangery at the rear.
  • Removal of the existing terrace and a willow tree.
  • Creation of a new garden door to replace the current entrance.

The architect stated, “This small-scale alteration is likely to enhance the pub’s success and its future sustainability.” The design aims to maintain the pub’s important role in the village’s visual landscape and preserve its traditional rural character.

Recent Changes and Renovations

The Fox and Hounds has been closed since late 2024, coinciding with a change of ownership. Recent renovations have received approval from Rutland County Council in February, paving the way for several enhancements:

  • Conversion of a barn into four letting rooms, supplementing the three existing boutique accommodations.
  • Improvement of toilet facilities, addressing complaints about substandard conditions.
  • Implementation of a one-way traffic system for better access to the yard area from the green.

These changes aim to not only revive The Fox and Hounds but also to contribute positively to the overall ambiance of Exton.

Impact on the Community

The proposed expansion and renovation of The Fox and Hounds are projected to significantly benefit the local community. The pub is recognized for its traditional style and historical significance, reinforcing the overall character of the village.

The plans are currently awaiting approval. Stakeholders and community members are encouraged to stay informed through El-Balad’s Public Notice Portal for updates on pending applications.
