Andreeva’s Dog Rassy Set for Season Debut in Dubai
Mirra Andreeva, an 18-year-old tennis prodigy and currently ranked World No. 8, recently welcomed a new companion into her life: a dog named Rassy. This significant addition followed a promise from her mother, which was contingent on Andreeva breaking into the Top 20 of the PIF WTA Rankings. She reached this milestone in October 2024 but had to wait over a year before receiving Rassy.
Life as a Dog Mom and Tournament Commitments
As Andreeva embarks on her competitive journey for the season, she faces the challenges of being a new dog owner. Currently in Australia for the WTA Tour Driven by Mercedes-Benz, she expressed how difficult it is to be away from Rassy for over two and a half weeks. “I miss her a lot, and I just wish that she could travel with me to all the tournaments,” she shared. While her family is taking care of Rassy back home, Andreeva is eager for the dog to accompany her on her travels.
Dubai Season Debut on the Horizon
Although Rassy couldn’t travel with her to Australia, Andreeva is looking forward to making her season debut during the upcoming Middle East Swing, specifically in Dubai. She hopes to have her furry friend by her side on future tournaments following this debut.
The Origins of Rassy’s Name
The name “Rassy” carries a unique backstory. Initially, Andreeva considered naming her dog Blair, inspired by a character from the series “Gilmore Girls.” However, upon meeting Rassy, the name felt unsuitable. Her parents suggested the name after recalling a film about an intelligent dog, which ultimately resonated with Andreeva. “They were like, ‘Oh, she’s so smart, she’s so intelligent,’” she recalled. “It is what it is. My parents chose the name.”
Training Challenges and Future Plans
Andreeva faced some obstacles in training Rassy, as she was adopted at a few months old and had already formed certain habits. When asked about the possibility of adopting a second dog in the future, she decided to keep the family small for now. “One is enough,” she stated, adding that any future decisions would depend on her accomplishments in tennis.
Current Performance and Upcoming Matches
In her initial matches this season, Andreeva has won three out of four. She will face Maya Joint on Thursday, competing for a place in the Adelaide semifinals. With her athletic career blossoming, she remains committed to balancing her professional life with her new responsibilities as a dog owner.
