Mike Vrabel Addresses Photos with Reporter Dianna Russini: “I’ve Had Tough Conversations”
New England Patriots coach Mike Vrabel spoke briefly at Gillette Stadium about photos taken of him and former Filmogaz.com reporter Dianna Russini. He said the matter has produced “tough conversations” with people close to him. Vrabel stressed those discussions have been productive.
Coach’s remarks at Gillette Stadium
Vrabel apologized for not addressing the issue sooner. He said he wanted to speak to the team before commenting publicly.
He emphasized personal accountability. “We believe that in order to be successful on and off the field you have to make good decisions,” he told reporters.
Privacy and focus on the team
Vrabel said he will keep private conversations private. He promised to remain focused and to bring his best to the organization.
The coach spoke for just under three minutes and declined to take questions.
Photos and public reaction
The New York Post published images on April 7 showing Vrabel and Russini at the Ambiente hotel in Sedona, Arizona. The pictures were taken on March 28 and showed the pair together in a pool, a hot tub, and embracing.
Both individuals are married. Each issued statements that downplayed the images.
Earlier statements and resignation
Vrabel previously called the images an “innocent interaction” and said no further response was necessary. Russini resigned from Filmogaz.com on April 14.
In her resignation letter, she defended her career and the professionalism of her work covering the NFL.
Team and league response
The Patriots have not issued an official team statement. An NFL spokesman said the league is not pursuing an investigation.
The Patriots returned to Gillette Stadium on Monday for the first day of voluntary organized team activities. Vrabel said he is eager to coach the team and to move forward.
