Reviews are arriving for the Broadway revival of David Auburn’s Proof. The production officially opened at the Booth Theatre on April 16.

Previews began March 31. The revival runs as a strictly limited 16-week engagement.

Production details

Thomas Kail, a Tony winner, directs the new staging. Mike Bosner co-produces with Kail.

The Booth Theatre hosts the revival. Baseline Theatrical serves as general manager for the production.

Casting and creative team

The revival stars Ayo Edebiri as Catherine and Don Cheadle as Robert. Jin Ha plays Hal, and Kara Young appears as Claire.

Kail’s creative collaborators include composer Kris Bowers. Scenic design is by Teresa L. Williams, and Dede Ayite handles costumes.

Amanda Zieve designs the lighting. Sound designers are Justin Ellington and Connor Wang. Mia Neal is hair and wig designer.

Daniel Swee is casting director, and Sara Gammage is the production stage manager.

About the play

Proof follows the daughter of a recently deceased mathematician. She must prove the authorship of a landmark mathematical proof found in his papers.

The story examines genius and mental illness while exploring family bonds and intellectual legacy.

Legacy and past productions

Proof premiered Off-Broadway at Manhattan Theatre Club in 2000. Its initial run sold out and led to a Broadway transfer.

The play won three Tony Awards, including Best Play. It closed January 5, 2003, after 917 performances at the Walter Kerr Theatre.

Proof received the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 2001. A 2005 film adaptation starred Anthony Hopkins and Gwyneth Paltrow.
