Spike Lee’s Animated Short ‘APART’ Debuts at Tribeca Festival

Spike Lee is behind a new animated short called APART. The film will make its world premiere at the Tribeca Festival. The screening is set for Saturday, June 6 at 2:30 p.m.

Story and themes

APART is set during South Africa’s apartheid era. It follows two boys, Themba and Joel, who form an unlikely friendship.

Their bond faces danger as social forces of hate and fear mount. A life-saving gesture becomes the story’s central test and moral hinge.

Creative team and collaborators

Spike Lee co-wrote the short with Tim Jones, Jeff Leisawitz, and Lubabalo Mtati. Pola Maneli directed the film.

Grammy-winning musician Black Coffee serves as music supervisor. Fashion designer Laduma Ngxokolo handled wardrobe, drawing on isiXhosa influences.
