Olivia Rodrigo Unveils Mesmerizing New Music Video in Versailles

Olivia Rodrigo has announced her third album, You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love. The record is slated for release on June 12, 2026. She also dropped the lead single “Drop Dead” with an accompanying video.

The video was shot inside the Palace of Versailles. Photographer and director Petra Collins led the production.

Historic permissions at the palace

Versailles confirmed this marks the first music video filmed inside the royal apartments. A palace representative told Filmogaz.com the permission aimed to inspire young audiences worldwide. The representative said Versailles wants to be seen as a place of beauty and love.

Director Sofia Coppola previously filmed in lesser-known Versailles spaces in 2006. Petra Collins has cited Coppola as an influence.

Scenes and locations captured

The clip opens with Rodrigo dancing in a crowded, colorfully lit bar. The mood then shifts in an instant.

She appears in bed among ornate decor. That sequence takes place in the Grand Couvert Antechamber of the Queen.

Behind her hangs Pierre Mignard’s tapestry Apollo and the Muses on Mount Parnassus, circa 1687. The space once hosted public royal meals. Marie Antoinette had music played during dining, and the room retains a small stage.

Rodrigo runs through larger palace spaces. The Gallery of Great Battles and the Princes’ Staircase are visible during the romp.

In the Queen’s Bedroom, two girls join Rodrigo for an electric guitar jam. The set preserves Marie Antoinette–era decor.

The sequence moves outdoors to the Orangery, the Hundred Steps, and the Marble Court. The video closes with Rodrigo collapsing as sunlight frames the scene.

Creative team and background

Petra Collins previously collaborated with Rodrigo on a Y2K-inspired video for “good 4 u” five years ago. Their partnership leans into a feminine gaze and stylized aesthetics.

Filming inside Versailles lends a lavish, cinematic quality. The result is a mesmerizing vision that blends pop imagery with historic settings.

Rodrigo also attended the 2026 Vanity Fair Oscar Party at LACMA on March 15, 2026. Her public appearances coincide with the album rollout and the new music video release.

The new music video and single will likely boost interest in the forthcoming album. Fans can expect more from Olivia Rodrigo as the June 12 release approaches.
