Generac Recalls Portable Generators Over Fire and Burn Risks
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a recall for nearly 150,000 Generac portable generators after reports of fuel leakage. The leak can occur when the carburetor is first filled, creating a potential fire and burn risk.
What happened
The recalled units were sold at Home Depot, Lowe’s and other retailers. Sales occurred online and in stores from May 2025 through February 2026.
CPSC received 114 reports of fuel leaks from these generators. No injuries have been reported so far.
Models included in the recall
- GP8000E — model G0077150
- GP6700EDF — model G0080620
- GP6500EDF — model G0081530
- GP6500 — model G0076802
Scope and sales figures
U.S. sales for the affected units are estimated at 149,400 units. Generac states about 51,500 of those units were sold directly to consumers.
Consumer guidance
Owners should stop using any generator covered by the recall until they confirm eligibility. Check the model and serial number on the label attached to the generator’s side.
If a unit has not been filled with gasoline, or if leakage occurred after the first fill, contact an authorized dealer for a free repair. Generac advises that units previously filled past the “E” mark or used without any leakage may continue to be used.
Company response
Generac said it initiated the voluntary recall out of caution. The company emphasized product safety as its top priority.
More information and recall eligibility details are available on Generac’s recall webpage. Consumers with questions should contact an authorized dealer for assistance.
