Lisa Swayze Approves ‘Dirty Dancing’ Sequel Script, Honors Patrick Swayze

Lisa Niemi Swayze said she has read the script for the planned Dirty Dancing follow-up. She described the pages as emotionally moving while attending Pancreatic Cancer Action Network’s Purple Stride event.

Speaking to Filmogaz.com, the 69-year-old widow praised how the new installment handles Johnny Castle’s legacy. She said she looks forward to seeing the finished film.

Sequel details and creative team

Lionsgate announced in January that production would begin later in the year. Jennifer Grey will return as Frances “Baby” Houseman and serve as an executive producer.

Producers attached include Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson. Kim Rosenstock is credited as the screenplay writer.

Response from the original cast and fans

The announcement prompted mixed reactions from longtime fans. Some criticized making a new film without Patrick Swayze, calling it disrespectful to his memory.

Jennifer Grey told Filmogaz.com she cannot replace those who have passed. She said the goal is to create something different while honoring the original film’s spirit.

Patrick Swayze’s legacy and Lisa’s advocacy

Patrick Swayze died in 2009 at age 57 after a 22-month battle with pancreatic cancer. He starred as dance instructor Johnny Castle in the 1987 original.

Lisa said people still approach her to express their admiration for him. She welcomes those remembrances and appreciates fans’ ongoing affection.

As Lisa Swayze Approves ‘Dirty Dancing’ Sequel Script, Honors Patrick Swayze, she also highlighted her work with PanCAN. She described the organization as a resource for patients and caregivers.

Purple Stride fundraiser

The PanCAN Purple Stride 5K will be held on April 25 this year. The event runs in more than 50 communities.

Purple Stride has raised over $17.6 million to date. Lisa praised participants for their energy and dedication to pancreatic cancer causes.
