Trump’s Approval Rating Plummets Amid Economic Concerns, Iran Tensions in Latest Poll

President Donald Trump signed an executive order to speed research into psychedelic drugs while podcaster Joe Rogan stood with him in the Oval Office. The move came as public support for the president hit a new low in a national survey.

Poll shows steep decline in approval

The NBC News Decision Desk released the poll on April 19. It found 63% of adults disapprove of the president’s performance. Just 37% said they approve.

The survey was fielded from March 30 to April 13. The sample included 32,433 adults ages 18 and older. The margin of error is ±1.8 percentage points.

Comparison with other measures

The New York Times’ daily poll average shows a wider gap. That aggregated measure places approval at 40% and disapproval at 56%.

Drivers of the decline

Analysts point to worsening views on the economy and the U.S. role in the Iran conflict. Poll respondents cited economic concerns and Iran tensions as major factors.

Economy and inflation

Respondents named the economy the top issue. Twenty-nine percent said it matters most to them. Threats to democracy ranked second at 24%.

Only 32% approve of the president’s handling of inflation and the cost of living. Sixty-eight percent disapprove. A majority, 52%, said they “strongly disapprove.”

That strong disapproval represents a seven-point rise since NBC last asked the question in August 2025.

Iran war and public sentiment

On the ongoing Iran conflict, two-thirds of adults disapprove of Trump’s management. Sixty-seven percent disapproved, while 33% approved. Fifty-four percent expressed “strong” disapproval. Nineteen percent said they “strongly approve.”

Views on the nation’s direction

The poll also captured opinions about the country’s course. Sixty-seven percent said the United States is on the wrong track. Thirty-three percent said it is on the right track. That wrong-track reading rose two points from the pollster’s prior survey in early February.
