Peacock Captured After Terrorizing 92-Year-Old’s Farm
A peacock caused a commotion at a Suffolk farm this week. The bird targeted the poultry of 92-year-old farmer Tom Walne, known locally as Farmer Tom.
What happened on the farm
The bird arrived near Copdock on Monday and initially appeared calm. By Tuesday morning it began attacking the chickens and chasing the cockerel away from the hens.
The disturbance prompted the couple to confine their birds for safety. Mrs Walne described her husband’s initial excitement about the unexpected guest.
Response and capture
The family posted an appeal on social media to trace the peacock’s owner. A friend helped launch the online appeal to speed identification.
The peacock was captured and removed from the property. Easton Farm Park, near Woodbridge, agreed to take the bird in temporarily.
Community context and past incidents
Local residents have reported other troublesome peacock episodes. In Staffordshire, a broadcaster encountered a wild peacock while villagers feared a growing flock.
Last summer, as many as 30 peacocks disturbed a North Lincolnshire village near RAF Hibaldstow. Locals said the birds damaged property, attacked cars and made noise at odd hours.
Aftermath
With the peacock rehoused, Tom Walne’s chickens were allowed back out. The farmer’s household said the birds can now enjoy quiet on the farm.
