Inclement Weather Delays Memphis Football Spring Fest

Inclement Weather Delays Memphis Football Spring Fest

Memphis announced on April 16 that its scheduled April 18 spring fest at Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium has been postponed. Forecasted storms prompted the decision.

Reason and rescheduling

University officials cited inclement weather in the forecast as the cause. They said delays to the spring fest would allow for fan safety.

Officials expect to set a new date later this year. No firm reschedule date was released with the announcement.

Practice plans for April 18

The team will still conclude spring practice on April 18. That session will be closed to the public and held at the program facility.

Event format and stadium access

Coach Charles Huff had chosen a practice with fan engagement elements instead of the traditional spring game. The postponed spring fest would have provided those fan interactions.

Fans also would have seen renovations at Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium. Those upgrades have been underway for years and are due before the 2026 season begins.

Roster turnover and quarterback battle

Memphis enters 2026 with an almost entirely new roster. The coaching staff added dozens of transfers and will field new starters at most positions.

The quarterback competition features Marcus Stokes from West Florida. Air Noland, a transfer from South Carolina, is also vying for the starting role.

Offense and defense schematic changes

Offensive coordinator Kevin Decker plans a wide spread offense focused on speed. The attack represents a clear shift from recent play styles.

Defensive coordinator Lance Guidry will run a 4-2-5 scheme. That differs significantly from the 3-3-5 setups used the past few seasons.

Key defensive additions

Southern Miss transfers J’Mond Tapp, Mike Montgomery and Ian Foster are expected to contribute heavily on defense. Coaches have indicated they will play significant roles.

Looking ahead

The Tigers will regroup for summer practices ahead of the fall campaign. Memphis opens the 2026 season at UNLV on August 29.
