“Beyond Paradise S4E4: Two Notable Susans Enrich Cast”

BBC One returns to Shipton Abbott this week for a new instalment of Beyond Paradise S4E4. The episode airs Friday, April 17, 2026 at 8pm.

Episode premise

The team investigates sabotage at a local seaweed farm. The damage occurs amid glowing bioluminescent waters.

Local fisherman Jeff Simmons claims he saw Shipton Abbott’s legendary mermaid. Esther worries Humphrey will run with the idea.

Two veteran Susans join the guest cast

Susan George, 75, plays Dr Mary Rhodes. Born in Surrey, she began appearing in commercials at age six.

Her first primetime TV credit came in 1962, aged 12, on The Dickie Henderson Show. Later roles included Jack the Ripper and Swallows and Amazons.

George became widely known for 1970s film parts such as Straw Dogs and Mandingo. She also played Margaret Walker in EastEnders in 2001.

She was married to actor Simon MacCorkindale from 1984 until his death in 2010. The couple had no children.

Susan Penhaligon, 76, appears as Maud Dingleby. She made her first screen appearance as an extra in the 1971 film Say Hello to Yesterday.

Her television credits include Doctor Who, Bouquet of Barbed Wire and A Fine Romance, where she played Helen from 1981 to 1984. She appeared in Emmerdale as Jean Hope in 2006.

Penhaligon’s film work includes Under Milk Wood and The Land That Time Forgot. She published the novel For the Love of Angel in 2008.

She and Duncan Preston divorced in 1992. They later reunited and remain together.

Other guest performers

Rina Mahoney, 52, is cast as Diana Cooper. The Birmingham-born actor is known for roles in The Bay and Happy Valley.

Mahoney voiced Jess Titchener in The Archers between 2013 and 2023. Recent credits include The Wheel of Time and Mary & George.

Henry Miller portrays local fisherman Jeff Simmons. He has more than 25 years of television and film credits.

Miller’s past roles include Robert Morganstaff in Line of Duty series 4 and Dr Fraser Theobald in Grace. He has also appeared in several films.

Newcomers Talia Robens and Xander Pang appear for the first time on television. Robens plays Lacy Dingleby and Pang plays Elijah Moore.
