Shiocton Village Evacuated Indefinitely by Official Order

The village president ordered all Shiocton residents to evacuate late Wednesday morning. The evacuation remains in effect until further notice. Officials set a 3 p.m. target for that day.

Evacuation and shelter

The American Red Cross opened an emergency shelter at the Black Creek Community Center. The address is 507 S. Maple St. Residents were advised to bring medications, wallets or purses, mobile devices and chargers.

Leaving safely

Residents were asked to lock their homes before leaving. Officials said there was no evacuation plan for pets at that time. The order warned crews may be unable to assist people who stay behind.

Flood threat and community response

River levels are rising rapidly and are expected to worsen over the next few days. Village officials said the river could reach an all-time high this week.

The Shiocton-Bovina Fire Department called for volunteers to help fill sandbags. Volunteers were asked to come to the fire hall to protect buildings and assist nearby residents.

Road closures and schools

Multiple streets were closed around the village, and drivers were urged to use caution. Shiocton schools canceled classes because of the flooding.
