Ipswich Trio Imprisoned for Vengeful Assault
Three men were jailed after a vengeful attack at Handford Cut, Ipswich, in July last year. The victim had been lured to the area by a text promising a free drug sample.
Attack and injuries
When he arrived, the man was stabbed several times in the back. He was also struck with a baseball bat, kicked repeatedly and hit with a belt.
He was taken to hospital with two stab wounds to his back, wounds to his leg and a punctured lung. Prosecutor James Lachkovic described the assault as organised and deliberate.
Court proceedings and sentences
At Ipswich Crown Court, Daman Semko, 19, admitted causing grievous bodily harm with intent. He was jailed for three years and placed in a young offenders’ institution.
Two co-defendants, Mohammed Semko, 24, and Mohammed Mama, 27, denied the charges. A jury convicted them after a trial in January.
Judge David Wilson sentenced Mohammed Mama to four years and Mohammed Semko to five years. Two other defendants connected to the incident will be sentenced next week.
Roles and motive
The court heard that Mohammed and Daman Semko had sold cannabis. Sometime before July 10 last year, the victim stole drugs from Daman Semko.
The prosecutor said the attack was a revenge tactic to deter further theft. Daman Semko arrived with a knife and stabbed the victim multiple times.
Mohammed Semko kicked the injured man, while Mohammed Mama struck him with a belt. The assault was described in court as organised and premeditated.
Background details
Defendants’ addresses were given to the court. Mohammed and Daman Semko live on Wicklow Road, Ipswich, and Mohammed Mama lives on Defoe Road, Ipswich.
The court was told Daman Semko and Mohammed Mama had no previous convictions. Sentencing reflected the seriousness of the assault and the intent to punish.
The Ipswich trio were imprisoned for the violent, vengeful assault that left the victim badly injured. Filmogaz.com will follow further developments, including the upcoming sentences.
