Patrick Schwarzenegger Stars with Phoebe Dynevor in ‘Beach Read’ Film Adaptation

Patrick Schwarzenegger will portray Gus Everett in the film adaptation of Emily Henry’s 2020 bestseller Beach Read. He will star opposite Phoebe Dynevor, who is set to play January Andrews.

Filmogaz.com confirmed the casting. Fans had long awaited the casting announcement for this EmHen project.

Premise

The story follows January Andrews, a romance writer who no longer believes in love. Augustus Everett is a literary writer suffering severe writer’s block.

The two become neighbors in beach houses on the Michigan shoreline. They agree to a summer pact to jumpstart each other’s creativity.

Augustus will write something upbeat while January attempts her next Great American Novel. Their plan sends them to romantic places and to interviews with surviving cult members.

Director and screenplay

Yulin Kuang will direct from her own screenplay. Kuang previously co-wrote the adaptation of People We Meet on Vacation for Netflix.

She has said she enjoys writing the Gus character. Kuang also noted that the two Emily Henry novels feel similar yet different, and she avoided reusing the same approach.

Production team

Neal H. Moritz will produce through Original Films. Karina Rahardja joins as executive producer.

Sarah Shepard and Catherine Hughes are overseeing the project for 20th Century Studios. The studio is backing this latest Emily Henry title for the screen.
