Canadian Residents to Receive Government Benefit Payments This Week
Canadians living with disabilities may soon receive important financial assistance from the government this week. The Canada Disability Benefit (CDB) payments are set to be deposited into eligible bank accounts on April 16. This program supports Canadians aged 18 to 64 with disabilities, and applications have been accepted since last June.
Eligibility for the Canada Disability Benefit
To qualify for the CDB, applicants must meet specific criteria. Invitations to apply are issued by Service Canada, and eligible individuals should receive a letter containing a unique six-digit code with application instructions. For those who do not receive this letter, alternative eligibility exists. If you have a spouse or common-law partner who filed a 2024 federal income tax return, you may still apply.
Who Can Apply?
- Canadian citizens
- Permanent residents
- Temporary residents residing in Canada for the past 18 months
- Protected persons
- Individuals registered under the Indian Act
Applicants aged 18 to 64 can also apply if they have already been certified for the Disability Tax Credit (DTC). This credit is designed to assist Canadians with physical or mental impairments, as well as their families. To qualify for the DTC, a medical professional must confirm the extent of the impairment, which might affect walking, mental functions, or other essential life activities.
Payment Details
The amount of financial support through the Canada Disability Benefit is determined by the family’s net income. From July 2025 to June 2026, the maximum payment is set at $2,400, which accounts for $200 per month. These amounts will be adjusted each year to reflect inflation and cost of living changes.
Applicants may also receive retroactive payments up to 24 months from the submission date, although this does not extend to months before June 2025. Starting in July, recipients can expect increased payments due to the Canada Revenue Agency’s indexation for the 2026 benefit year.
Future Payment Schedule
The upcoming month will be crucial for Canadian residents anticipating benefit payments. Those eligible for the Canada Disability Benefit should stay informed about further developments regarding their applications and payment schedules.
