Jaecoo 7 Rebranded as Lepas L6: A Best-Seller’s New Identity
The Chinese manufacturer Chery has confirmed the Lepas L6 will join the UK SUV market. The model goes on sale in the final quarter of this year and will debut in Europe at the Milan Motor Show.
Launch plans and market positioning
The L6 is the second Lepas model bound for the UK. It arrives after the larger Lepas L8, which is also due later this year.
Lepas is presented as a more premium sibling to Omoda and Chery models. The brand aims to sit closer to Jaecoo’s positioning, while adopting a less rugged character.
Powertrains and range
The L6 will be available as a self-charging hybrid and as a battery-electric vehicle. Hybrid versions use the 1.5-litre Super Hybrid system from the Chery Tiggo 4.
In the Tiggo 4, that system produces 201 bhp. Lepas claims a hybrid maximum driving range above 700 miles.
The Lepas L6 BEV will carry a 67 kWh battery. Estimated WLTP range is about 270 miles. An EV shown at the Bangkok Motor Show suggests a front-mounted motor around 239 bhp.
Design and interior
The L6’s styling echoes the larger L8 and draws cues from Chery’s Tiggo 7. Observers have noted familiar premium proportions.
Lepas says the name blends “leopard” and “passion.” The brand describes the design as expressing the “agility of a running leopard.”
Hybrid models get a chrome-studded grille. The BEV features a pinched front end, similar to some Omoda designs.
Cabin highlights mirror the L8. Expect a large portrait touchscreen that flows into the centre console. Trim includes wood-effect inlays and a two-spoke steering wheel.
Sales context and strategy
The Jaecoo 7 is currently a Best-Seller in the UK, ranking second in 2026. That success boosts Chery’s broader market push.
Combined sales of Jaecoo, Omoda and Chery now outpace some established marques, including BMW, Vauxhall and Ford.
Some industry commentators view the new release as part of a rebranded product strategy to lift Chery’s premium reach.
