Los Angeles Officials Ensure ‘Baywatch’ Series Continues in Venice
Officials in Los Angeles are determined to keep the production of the new ‘Baywatch’ series in Venice. Recent concerns suggested that filming might be moved out of the area, but local leaders are working to address logistical challenges.
Commitment to Venice and Los Angeles
On Friday, LA County Supervisor Lindsey Horvath convened a meeting at Fox Studios. Attendees included city officials, production leaders, and representatives from various agencies.
Horvath emphasized the importance of keeping ‘Baywatch’ in Los Angeles County. Councilwoman Traci Park reassured the community that the production “was never leaving Venice or Los Angeles.”
Support for Local Economy
The local government recognizes the series as essential for the region’s economy. According to Horvath, “Bringing Baywatch back to Los Angeles is not just important — it’s essential to sustaining our local economy.”
Park highlighted the city’s commitment to adapting to the production’s needs. Updates to the Coastal Development Permit were discussed, designed to facilitate future filming projects.
Production Details and Challenges
The filming schedule runs through July, bolstered by a $21.1 million tax credit from the California Film Commission. The meeting focused on several logistical needs:
- Flexible production hours
- Expanded parking facilities
- A dedicated on-set liaison
Jhamal K. Robinson, head of production at Fremantle, expressed gratitude for the collaboration. He affirmed that filming would continue at Venice Beach and other locations throughout Los Angeles County.
Overview of the Reboot
The new ‘Baywatch’ project features Hobie Buchannon, portrayed by Stephen Amell. Hobie, now a Baywatch Captain, navigates his new life as he reconnects with his long-lost daughter, Charlie, played by Jessica Belkin.
The reboot has received a 12-episode straight-to-series order from Fox. It has been in development since winter 2024, with hopes of preserving the legacy of the original series.
The city of Los Angeles, along with its officials, remains resolute in ensuring the success and continuation of ‘Baywatch’ in Venice Beach. The collaboration highlights the area’s significance as a hub for the entertainment industry.
