Micah Mays Jr. Shines in Florida Football Spring Game Stalemate

The Florida spring exhibition at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium ended in a 45-45 stalemate. Jon Sumrall’s first Orange and Blue game drew 47,100 fans on Saturday, April 11.

Offensive highlights

Quarterback Tramell Jones Jr. completed 13 of 17 passes for 210 yards and two touchdowns. Aaron Philo finished 18 of 24 for 166 yards, two scores and two interceptions.

Transfer receiver Micah Mays Jr. finished with four catches for 122 yards and two touchdowns. He broke free for a long touchdown late in the second quarter, and he shined throughout the spring game.

Eric Singleton Jr. added four catches for 83 yards and a touchdown. Vernell Brown III hauled in a 30-yard touchdown from Philo late in the third quarter.

Defense and special teams

Florida’s defense forced multiple turnovers. Safety DJ Coleman intercepted Aaron Philo in the first half.

Safety Cam Dooley recorded another interception. Cornerback Onis Konanbanny picked off a pass by freshman Will Griffin in the second half.

Freshman KJ Ford notched a sack. Punter Alec Clark placed a 57-yard boot downed at the one-yard line.

Kicker Patrick Durkin made field goals of 48, 29 and 26 yards. Running back Aidan Warner finished a 75-yard drive with a 16-yard touchdown run.

Momentum swings

Defense dominated early, building a sizable lead. The offense rallied in the second quarter under new coordinator Buster Faulkner.

At halftime the offense led 32-25. The third quarter saw further scoring, and the teams finished tied.

Notable details and roster notes

Opening drives featured Aaron Philo completing five of six passes for 36 yards. A fourth-and-1 attempt by Jadan Baugh was stopped on the opening series.

The offensive line in the first series lined up Emeka Ugorji, Knijeah Harris, Harrison Moore, Bryce Lovett and Caden Jones. Wide receiver Dallas Wilson was among those out for the spring scrimmage.

No television or streaming broadcast carried the game. Radio coverage aired on 103.7 FM in Gainesville.
