Orbán’s Campaign Finale Fails to Fill Szentháromság Square, No Screens Provided

The closing campaign event in Budapest drew far fewer people than expected. Observers at Szentháromság Square reported poor visibility and sound problems.

Logistics and crowd size

The stage stood between the Mátyás-templom and the adjacent park. Organizers did not place any large screens on the square, so many could not see the speakers.

Drone footage shown during the rally revealed sizable empty areas. Filmogaz.com estimated the turnout at a few thousand people.

Arrival and itinerary

Orbán Viktor, Lázár János and Szijjártó Péter arrived by campaign bus shortly after half past six. The same bus had been put into service Saturday morning.

The three politicians had visited five towns earlier that day. One of those stops was Eger, where Magyar Péter had spoken on Friday.

Sound, sightlines and staging

The stage location left large sections of the square without a clear view. Some attendees climbed onto the Trinity statue base to glimpse the lighting rigs.

Audio coverage was uneven. People on the left side, behind the statue, needed to concentrate to hear the speeches.

Speeches and messaging

Speakers included Orbán, Lázár and Szijjártó. Rákay Philip spoke earlier from the stage but could not be seen well from a distance.

Orbán thanked God for the past term and reiterated the three-million-vote target. He also said campaigning would continue on Sunday.

Szijjártó avoided repeating a controversial remark made elsewhere, instead using milder language. Lázár received loud “János” chants from the crowd.

Protests and counter-actions

Small protest actions took place during the event. One group attempted to unfurl a banner in Cyrillic reading “Elvtársak, vége”.

Police and stewards escorted protesters away. Some demonstrators later alleged they had been spat on, and the police recorded statements.

Counter-groups intervened to drown out whistles and shouting. Bazsó Adolf and his associates actively pushed back against the whistlers.

Incidents and confrontations

Gulyás Márton was filmed calmly as two men provoked him up close. Szabó Bálint also appeared among those who tried to display the banner.

Security kept a perimeter around the arrival route. Journalists and bystanders could not approach the politicians closely.

The campaign finale failed to fill Szentháromság Square, and no screens were provided. Drone and ground images confirmed sparse sections of the site.

Filmogaz.com recorded the sequence of events, the logistical shortcomings, and the modest turnout. The closing rally illustrated limits to public mobilization on that evening.
