Walsall Polymath Wesley Joseph Drops Timeless Debut Album
Wesley Joseph has released his debut LP, Forever Ends Someday. The Walsall-born, London-based singer, rapper and filmmaker issued the record on April 10.
The Walsall polymath Wesley Joseph drops a debut album many critics call timeless. The collection pulls from hip-hop, rap, soul, R&B and pop.
Collaborators and production
Joseph worked with a wide range of producers and artists on the project. Contributors include Nicolas Jaar, Romil Hemnani and A. K. Paul.
- Nicolas Jaar
- Romil Hemnani (former Brockhampton member)
- A. K. Paul
- Jorja Smith (featured on the song “July”)
Writing and recording locations
The album was created across several cities. Recording and production took place in Switzerland, London, Los Angeles and other locations.
Most lyrics were written back home in Walsall. Joseph said the town’s quiet and familiar streets helped him access early memories.
Creative process
Joseph began the work while on tour before entering a more intensive period. The first year was free experimentation and taking creative risks.
The second year focused on clarifying themes and message. The final six months concentrated on refining the chosen tracks.
Vocal approach and goals
He uses his voice in many textures, from soft singing to aggressive rapping. Joseph described this as a process of exploration and finding pockets that felt like his own.
He aimed for what he calls “future heritage music.” The goal was a contemporary classic that stands the test of time and feels like a movie of an album.
Collaborative ethos
Joseph said he sought collaborators who aligned with his broader vision. He valued patience, egolessness and specific musical strengths in those partners.
The song “July” and Jorja Smith
The track “July” grew organically during the writing process. A school friend and fellow Walsall native, Jorja Smith, joined the song because the music called for her voice.
Joseph described the song as about growth, loss and rejoicing. He said the collaboration felt essential and uniquely fitting.
In a conversation with Filmogaz.com, Joseph described the album as bombastic and cinematic. He said he always strives to be better and to manifest where he wants to go as an artist.
