Satou Sabally Thanks Phoenix Fans Amid Mercury Free Agency
Satou Sabally is preparing to enter unrestricted free agency after one season with the Phoenix Mercury. She posted on Instagram thanking fans and calling the campaign her best year yet.
Free agency timeline and status
Front Office Sports reporter Annie Costabile reported Sabally is not expected to re-sign in Phoenix. She will begin meetings with interested teams on Wednesday, April 8, when negotiations open.
Sabally can sign a new contract starting Saturday, April 11. The 27-year-old forward is an unrestricted free agent.
Role in Phoenix’s Finals run
Sabally was a central figure in the Mercury’s push to the 2025 WNBA Finals. She averaged 21.7 points in the Finals before suffering a concussion in Game 3.
The concussion sidelined her for Game 4. During the regular season she produced 16.3 points, 5.9 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.3 steals per game.
Big 3 and team impact
She formed a core trio with Kahleah Copper and Alyssa Thomas. That Big 3 helped carry Phoenix to the Finals.
Sabally publicly thanked Phoenix fans for their support during the season. Her departure would alter the club’s core moving forward.
Roster moves and retained rights
The Mercury have already moved on other roster decisions. On April 7, the team extended qualifying offers to four reserve free agents.
- Monique Akoa Makani — point guard
- Natasha Mack — forward
- Kathryn Westbeld — forward
- Kiana Williams — forward
What comes next
Sabally’s meetings will determine where she plays in 2026. Her choice will shape Phoenix’s roster construction and offseason plans.
