Lufthansa Faces Pilot Strikes on April 13-14 as Union Acts

Union VC has called pilots across several Lufthansa group carriers to strike over pension demands. The walkouts are planned for mid-April amid stalled negotiations.

Schedule and scope

Pilots at Lufthansa, Lufthansa Cargo and Lufthansa CityLine were asked to strike from April 13 at 00:01 CET. The action runs until April 14 at 23:59 CET. Lufthansa Faces pilot strikes on April 13-14 as union acts to press its pension demands.

Pilots at Eurowings received a separate call to strike on April 13. That action is set for 00:01 to 23:59 CET. The measures cover flight operations across the group.

Regional exemptions

The union excluded flights to several Middle Eastern destinations from the action. Carriers serving those routes will not be affected by the stoppage.

Union position

VC said management failed to offer an acceptable solution on pensions. The union described employer resistance in recent bargaining rounds. VC President Andreas Pinheiro said members felt compelled to act.

Airline response

Lufthansa criticised the walkout as a sharp escalation. The company rejected the union’s demand to double its company pension scheme. Lufthansa called the request unrealistic and unachievable.

Next steps

Passengers should expect disruptions on affected dates. Travelers should check flight statuses with their carrier. Further negotiations could follow the action.
