TTC Stops Line 2 Closure; No GO Trains on Lakeshore East, Stouffville
Transit riders in Toronto will experience important changes this weekend as the TTC cancels a planned closure on Line 2. However, GO Transit users will face disruptions due to essential construction work.
TTC Line 2 Closure Cancelled
The Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) has announced the cancellation of the scheduled weekend closure on Line 2. Initially, this closure was set to occur between Keele and St. George stations for signal maintenance.
GO Transit Service Disruptions
For GO Transit passengers, this weekend, from Saturday, April 11, to Sunday, April 12, train services on key lines will be suspended due to ongoing construction efforts. The affected lines are Lakeshore East and Stouffville.
- Lakeshore East Line: GO train services will be replaced by GO buses between Durham College Oshawa and Pickering GO stations, along with express service to Union Station Bus Terminal. Key stations without train service include:
- Rouge Hill
- Guildwood
- Eglinton
- Scarborough
- Danforth
- Stouffville Line: Train services will be suspended, with replacement buses running between Old Elm and Unionville GO stations, also featuring express service to Union Station Bus Terminal. Passengers should note the following stations will not have service:
- Milliken
- Agincourt
- Kennedy
Travelers are encouraged to use the TTC as an alternative means of transportation during these service changes. Some bus schedules may be altered, and connections could be affected, particularly on GO bus route 88. Additionally, there will be late-night service adjustments on Friday.
Expect Minor Delays
Following the construction, starting Monday, April 13, some Lakeshore East trains will operate at reduced speeds between Pickering and Durham College Oshawa. Riders should anticipate minor delays during this period.
A Busy Weekend Ahead
This weekend’s transit disruptions coincide with a significant series of sporting events in Toronto. Notable games include:
- The Toronto Blue Jays hosting the Minnesota Twins on Saturday and Sunday afternoons.
- The Toronto Maple Leafs facing off against the Florida Panthers on Saturday night.
- The Toronto Raptors concluding their regular season with a home game against the Brooklyn Nets on Sunday night.
Passengers are advised to plan their trips accordingly, taking into account the service changes and the anticipated influx of attendees at these major events.
