Paddock observations

  • Doyen Quest (2) had a plain coat but appeared fit. He still presented well to handlers.
  • Captain Teague (9) had not improved fitness as expected since Windsor. Others were preferred.
  • Favour And Fortune (1) showed clear improvement from Kempton. He looked very fit.

  • Wellington Arch (7) has calmed during the year. He appeared fit and in good order.
  • Faivoir (14) tends to present well and looked fit. No obvious concerns were reported.
  • Fiveonefive (15) appeared a little tight and tense. Connections kept a close eye on him.
  • Jazzy Matty (16) was on his toes but showing normal behaviour. He seemed fit and ready.
  • Trustintimes (20) behaved professionally in the ring. Walked well and appeared fine.
  • Joyeuse (5) did not stand out physically. Little change since Cheltenham was reported.

  • Top Jimmy (19) was alert and well turned out. Appeared fit for the race.
  • Indeevar Bleu (3) looked in excellent order. Wore a red hood but walked calmly.
  • Rambo T (2) was judged poorer than his stablemate. Lacked the same level of fitness.
  • Sir Galahad (22) showed a plain coat. Others were considered fitter on the day.
  • Ballykinlar (18) appeared very fit despite a plain coat. Movement was not ideal.
  • Fingle Bridge (4) looked a good type. Fit and well presented.
  • Act Of Authority (8) was manageable but a touch tense through the neck.

Reaction from connections

Winning rider Jonjo O’Neill Jnr reflected on the result after the race. He said he had rued a near miss the previous day when Highland’s Legacy fell at the last.

O’Neill Jnr added that Wellington Arch was the main ride on the card. He noted the horse carried more weight than last year and did not jump at his best.

Connections felt the winner would develop into a fine chaser next season. The victory was hailed as reward for the Jackdaws team.

O’Neill Jnr praised a productive spring for the yard. He accepted they may lack Grade 1 horses but can still prosper in handicaps.
